Robbed

Annoying and sad things happen sometimes – like when my laptop got stolen… A mean man took it off me whilst I was working on it and with no brain work at all, I just got up and chased him. My only thought was that he had my whole business in his hands, and I needed it back. After a few minutes and a scuffle he passed it to someone on a bike and off it went.

At first I was devastated. I had last backed up 6 weeks ago, and I had all my new branding and designs for my first trade show, Pulse were on the computer – all gone for good. It would take months to re-write, re-think, re-design everything again. And I won’t be able to remember it all accurately, so it’s all a complete lost mess.

What took me by surprise was that I actually found it a bit liberating starting again. There were a few niggly things about my old designs, which I couldn’t put my finger on, or sort out. Starting again meant I only remembered the bits I liked! All the crap was wiped away. My designs became cleaner with fewer layers, which is what I strive for anyway, but over designing is like painting a picture and not knowing when to stop.

I still have the feeling of pure pissed-off-ness when I go to a file, can’t find it, and realise it’s on my old computer – but thanks to emails, drop box, google doc’s and everything else – it could have been much, much worse.

Sometimes I think I was stupid to chase after the mean man, the “what if” question often comes to mind… But then I think that actually it was probably a good thing – I gave him a run for his money, and as he was so big and unfit, he might either think twice before doing it again, or try to get fit – which isn’t a bad thing…

PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE NO IMAGES TO ACCOMPANY THIS PIECE BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL ON MY OLD COMPUTER…
